About

Evita Ziemele is a multi disciplinary artist interested in the expression of the bizarreness of the female lived experience, focusing on themes of trauma & body dysmorphia through unsettling and somewhat humorous visual language.

The visual language begins at her wearable sculptures made from tights; clothing that is designed for male pleasure is mutated to deny the viewers pleasure of the female nude.

Her painting practice uses a lurid colour palette and visual signifiers to deny the male gaze and place women at the forefront of the narrative. Incorporating allegory and Greek myth roots her images within the history of painting, whilst subverting the works of these male ‘masters’ in order to express a female perspective; filling the canvas with multiple renderings of protruding breasts and vaginas, antagonistically rendered, in order to wreak revenge on the meek male bodies.
